It was a very cold but sometimes sunny day and all three flights did great.

Wing Netball Competition

Sunday 19th November

Well done to a great team of enthusiastic young ladies; Flight Sergeant Grace Leather, Corporal Shannon Bradley, Cadets Caitlin Beckley, Emma Dawson, Courtney Ivatt, Megan Morris, Madeline Rigby, Jessica Welsby and Phoebe Woodard, and their coach Civilian Instructor Mr Joe Morrell who got in trouble for yelling from the side-lines!

Overall we came 15th on the day, up against some tough teams.

RAF Careers Visit

Wednesday 22nd November

Thank you very much to Corporal Ben Bainbridge from RAF Careers, who ran a series of activities to entertain the cadets.

He finished with a display of careers information on apprenticeships, commissions and Wellbeck College.

He thought the cadets were great and hopes to come back in the warmer weather.

50th Anniversary Dinner

Saturday 25th November

The evening followed the usual formula of formal dinner & speeches, with a disco and private bar.

What a fabulous night for all concerned!
Many many thanks to all who travelled so many miles to join us, for our Anniversary. It was fantastic to see so many old faces of former cadets and staff.

Also in attendance were many current staff and cadets, with some of their parents who experienced the dinner for the first time ever.

Well done to all the cadets who were exemplary in their manner and deportment during the meal and for having a good dance afterwards. You make us very proud and give us the energy and determination to continue.

Thanks to the DJ Matt who kept us on the dancefloor.
Thanks to all the staff at the Novotel Worsley, for their hospitality and ensuring a smooth night.

Holcombe Moor Training Weekend

Friday 8th - Sunday 10th December

Many of our cadets took part in a great weekend over at Holcombe Moor, home of Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force. The Officer Commanding, Major Tom Cornmell is a true supporter of our squadron activities and we thank him for his commitment to us.

Leadership Blue Badge Course

On the Saturday Cadets Emily Dawson, Bradley Haff, Taylor Higson, Emily Kalis, Matthew McRoy, Daniel Platt, Madeline Rigby, Erin Wilson and Phoebe Woodard, took part in their leadership assessments to qualify them for their Leadership badges

The course was run by Civilian Instructors Mr Tom Appleby, Mr Joe Morrell and Flight Sergeant Grace Leather.
They were supported by Sergeant Bradley Atherton, Corporals Shannon Bradley, Daniel Murphy and Cadet Thomas Maher who already have their leadership badges.

Well done to you all.

Blue Wings Gliding Course

Also on the Saturday, Flight Lieutenant Morrell, Cadets Caitlin Beckley, Ethan Clarke-Gauld, Declan Lawton, Justin Markland, Oscar Miles and Jessica Welsby, travelled to RAF Topcliffe in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Whilst the snow came down at Holcombe Moor, it was gloriously sunny but cold at Topcliffe and was a great day for gliding.

They undertook a morning of study in the theory of flight, attempted the skills required in a state of the art simulator.

In the afternoon they put their new learnt skills into practice with a flight in the Vigilant, where it was reported that they all flew really well.

Communication Blue Badge Course

Sunday was a long day to qualify all the cadets on the weekend who did not already have a Blue Communications Badge.
They all took part enthusiastically and all the cadets took part in extensive practical skills and listened intently to the many theoretical aspects.

Cadets Ethan Clarke-Gauld, Emma Dawson, Bradley Haff, Taylor Higson, Emily Kalis, Declan Lawton, Matthew McRoy, Oscar Miles, Daniel Platt, Madeline Rigby, Jessica Welsby, Erin Wilson and Phoebe Woodard successfully qualified for their badges.

I thank the same staff who did a great job on Saturday who then went on to complete all the radio talk assessments during Sunday afternoon.

Thanks to you all for a great weekend.

Inter-Flight Fancy Dress & Buffet

Wednesday 20th December

Thanks to all the Cadets who took part in our last night of the year and represented their Flights this evening.

You were all truly great and some of it took some courage to take part. We have some budding little actors and there were many laughs.

Whilst there was some competitiveness between A & B flight, C Flight did exceptionally well considering many of them are new to the Squadron.

Well done to you all.
