Adventure & Outdoor Activities
From fieldcraft and navigation, to expeditions and Duke of Edinburgh's Award. All activities are supervised and risk-assessed by trained staff.
Fieldcraft
Fieldcraft teaches cadets practical outdoor skills in a team environment. Activities include camouflage and concealment, observation techniques, and working together in outdoor scenarios. It's about developing awareness, teamwork and resilience.
- What to expect: structured training sessions, outdoor exercises, and team challenges.
- What they learn: teamwork, problem solving, situational awareness, and outdoor skills.
- Safety: all activities are supervised and risk-assessed before taking place.
Fieldcraft develops confidence and teamwork in a controlled outdoor setting. Cadets are briefed on safety and expectations before each activity.
We provide appropriate kit where needed. Cadets should bring suitable clothing for outdoor activities — we'll let you know in advance.
Interested in joining?
If your child enjoys being outdoors and working in a team, they don't need prior experience — just enthusiasm. Start with our joining info or get in touch.
Expeditions
Expeditions give cadets the chance to apply their skills in real outdoor environments. These supervised walking expeditions develop teamwork, resilience and leadership. Cadets plan routes, navigate, and work together to complete their journey.
- What happens: team planning, navigation, camping (where applicable), and completing set objectives.
- Skills developed: leadership, resilience, communication, and practical outdoor skills.
- Supervision: all expeditions are supervised with clear safety protocols and support.
Expeditions challenge cadets in a supportive environment, helping them build confidence and overcome obstacles.
We provide full briefings, kit lists, and safety information before each expedition. Parents are kept informed throughout.
Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Many cadets complete their Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) through the squadron. We support Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, helping cadets with expedition training, skills development, physical activities, and volunteering.
- What's involved: volunteering, physical activity, skills development, and expeditions.
- Squadron support: we provide expedition training, equipment, and supervision.
- Recognition: a nationally recognised award valued by employers and universities.
We guide cadets through the entire DofE process, from registration to final assessment and award presentation.
DofE develops independence, resilience, and commitment — qualities that benefit young people throughout their lives.
Camps & Annual Camp
Camps are a highlight of the cadet year. Our annual camp provides a week of varied activities, training, and social experiences. Cadets develop independence, make lasting friendships, and try activities they wouldn't normally access.
- What happens: a mix of adventure activities, sports, training, and free time.
- Supervision: fully staffed with trained adult volunteers and clear welfare procedures.
- Cost: heavily subsidised to keep costs as low as possible for families.
Camps are structured, supervised, and follow strict safeguarding protocols. We provide detailed information packs for parents beforehand.
Camps create lasting memories and friendships. Many cadets say annual camp is their highlight of the year.
