What we do

  • Aviation and flying-related opportunities
  • Adventure training and outdoor activities
  • STEM, leadership and teamwork
  • Qualifications, camps and events

A typical evening

Evenings are structured and supportive. You’ll usually see a short parade at 7:00pm, training or activities, a break, then a final parade to wrap up. Then the night finishes at 9:30 New cadets are guided throughout — no experience needed.

Who can join?

Young people must be in Year 8 & 12 years of age. There’s no requirement to join the Royal Air Force — the RAF Air Cadets is a youth organisation.

Uniform & cost

Uniform is provided on loan. Parents usually only need to provide black shoes and socks. Subscriptions are currently £20 per month. MTP's however are a separate purchase from squadron, you can find MTP's on websites like Cadet direct

Fitting In

Worsley Squadron has cadets from many different areas and schools. You will be made very welcome on your first visit and from then on you will get to know people. You could always bring a friend with you! As a cadet in this very busy squadron, you will be part of a larger organisation.

Support & safety

We work hard to create a respectful, welcoming environment. Cadets are supported by trained adult volunteers and staff. If you have any questions before visiting, please email us — we’re happy to help.

FAQ

Do I have to participate in everything?

We encourage cadets to get involved, but support is always available. Many activities are optional — the best approach is to try new things and build confidence at your own pace.

Do I have to join the Royal Air Force?

Not at all. The RAF Air Cadets is a youth organisation. Some cadets go on to RAF careers, but there’s no obligation.

What happens on a first visit?

You can come along, meet the team, see what the night feels like and ask questions. We’ll explain what to expect and what the next steps are.
